Autumn Garden Tidy
Restore Order. Prepare for Winter
After a busy summer, gardens can quickly start to look tired, overgrown and past their best.
Our Autumn Garden Tidy gives your garden the attention it needs before colder weather arrives — clearing, cutting back and tidying where appropriate while preparing the space for the months ahead.
Every garden is different, so rather than working through a fixed checklist, we assess what yours needs and focus our time where it will make the biggest difference.
Available across East Hertfordshire, West Essex and surrounding areas.
Give Your Garden a Proper Reset
A little attention now makes a big difference.
By the end of summer, borders can become crowded, lawns and edges lose definition and planting can begin to look untidy. Autumn is a good opportunity to bring everything back under control before winter.
A professional tidy now can leave the garden looking more considered through the colder months, make spring maintenance easier and give us an opportunity to spot anything that would benefit from attention before bad weather arrives.
For many clients, it is also simply the difference between looking out at a garden that feels neglected all winter and one that still feels cared for.
What Can an Autumn Garden Tidy Include?
-
Depending on your garden, an Autumn Garden Tidy can include:
-
seasonal cutting back where appropriate
-
pruning suitable plants and shrubs
-
clearing and tidying borders
-
removing fallen leaves and garden debris
-
weeding and general planting maintenance
-
lawn and edging work
-
tidying paths and landscaped areas
-
removing tired seasonal growth
-
assessing plants that may need protection or further attention
-
identifying small maintenance or landscaping issues before winter
We only carry out work that is appropriate for your garden, planting and the time of year.
Not Every Garden Needs the Same Thing
Garden care tailored to your space.
A small established garden needs very different attention from a large family garden, a newly landscaped space or a heavily planted country garden.
That’s why we don’t treat the Autumn Garden Tidy as a standard checklist. We look at the garden as a whole, talk to you about what you want to achieve and agree where our time will have the greatest impact.
You may need a thorough seasonal tidy across the whole garden, or you might simply want us to concentrate on the areas that have become difficult to keep on top of.
Garden Care With a Landscaper’s Eye
More than general garden maintenance
Because JPC designs and builds gardens as well as maintaining them, we look beyond what simply needs pruning or clearing. While we’re working in the garden, we’re also looking at the wider space - paving, steps, fencing, drainage, planting areas, garden structures and other landscaped features.
If we notice something that would benefit from maintenance, repair or improvement, we can point it out before it becomes a bigger issue.
For professionally landscaped gardens, this wider view can be particularly valuable in protecting the investment you have already made in the space.
Is an Autumn Garden Tidy Right for You?
An Autumn Garden Tidy may be ideal if:
-
the garden has become difficult to keep on top of after summer
-
borders and planting are beginning to look untidy
-
you want the garden properly prepared before winter
-
you have a landscaped garden but don’t have time to maintain it yourself
-
you want someone knowledgeable to assess what should and shouldn’t be cut back
-
you would rather get everything under control now than face a much bigger job in spring

Would You Like Us to Keep On Top of It?
Ongoing garden care
If you already know you’ll want help again in winter, spring or throughout the year, you don’t have to wait until the garden becomes overwhelming before calling us back.
JPC also provides seasonal and ongoing Garden Care, with visits planned around what your particular garden needs at different times of year.
That could include a Winter Garden Put to Bed, Spring Garden Refresh, Summer Garden Care or more regular support.
Autumn Tidy or Winter Put to Bed?
What's the difference
An Autumn Garden Tidy is primarily about restoring order after summer and getting the garden back under control as the growing season slows down.
Our Winter Garden Put to Bed goes further into preparing and protecting the garden for colder and wetter conditions, with greater emphasis on winter preparation, plant protection and checking landscaped areas and garden features.
Some gardens may benefit from one visit; others may benefit from both.
If you’re unsure which is right for your garden, tell us what is happening and we’ll recommend the most appropriate option.
